With the development of China’s economy, ties between china and the world more and more close, and we trade with neighboring countries become more and more frequent, ASEAN inevitably become china’s trade partner. Besides of goods trade, china and ASEAN cooperate and communicate more closely in the fields like science and technology, biology, chemistry and so on. As one of ASEAN countries, Thailand keeps a stable friendship with China. Meanwhile China and Thailand continue to deepen the collaboration in science and technology. At the same time, English for Science and Technology (EST), as an important tool for communication in the science and technology, increasingly attracts people’s attention and the demand for its translation increases correspondently. However, English for Science and Technology (EST), as a kind of product of the times, is quite different from literal works in many aspects such as the use of vocabulary, sentence structures and patterns. EST has its own characteristics, which requires translators to do a lot of researches on both lexical and syntactic structures under the premise of knowing about professional knowledge of the translation materials, and grasping the translation principles and techniques.This translation work is mainly from a book of CATTC (China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center), the book is mainly about the application, production, and use procedures of biomass, especially the producing process. This book detailed the producing process, charts and equations are used to make it clearer for readers. I chose the first part, totally 15000 words, as my translation material.This report is mainly about biological technology translation method based on a biological technology text, and translation difficulties in the translation process. I provided some methods to solve these difficulties in form of case analysis. Applying Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the instruction, author discussed how to make translation to achieve equivalence with the source language from the semantic equivalence. Under this construction, author did a very detailed discussion on word equivalence, sentence equivalence, meaning equivalence and text equivalence. Author hopes to use this report to provide some help for agricultural technology translation.It’s made up of four major parts. The first part introduces the background and arrangement of the study. The second part describes author’s preparation for the translation, and analysis of source text, mainly from three aspects, vocabulary, syntax and tense characteristics. The third part is mainly about functional equivalence theory and the related translation skills, how to use the theory to translate the source text. The forth part focuses on the case analysis, in this section, translation cases which use the translation methods and skills will be presented. The last part makes a conclusion of the whole paper. Attached to the body are a list of references and the translation of this book.
