A Report On The Translation Of English For Agricultural Science And Technology(Excerpts)

The translation project is made up of two parts: the first is translating the book Agricultural English for Science and Technology.The second is writing a translation report on the translation practice.Translation theories in C hina have long been focused on literature translation.Agriculture English belongs to scientific English which is so strikingly different from literature English that theories applicable to literature English do not necessarily hold for agriculture English.O urs is a big agricultural country with a large population with agriculture playing an important role in feeding the people.With the development of science,traditional agriculture is becoming growingly modernized and mechanized.International exchange plays an important role in that process,with the result that translation of agricultural English is becoming more and more important.The report is based on the translation of the book English for Agricultural Science and Technology.During the translation process,translation theories were employed to explore effective translation strategies and skills according to the stylistic features of English for Agricultural Science and Technology,with the aim to improve my ability of translation.The report falls into five parts.The first chapter is task description,including introduction to the translation task,introduction to the text,and significance of the task.The second chapter is task process.It is mainly about establishing a database,exploring translation tools,quality control and schedule of thesis.The third chapter is case analysis.In this chapter,theories are put into practice.Some typical examples are cited to illustrate the main translation strategies and skills.The fourth chapter is task assessment.Many part ies,my supervisor and classmate in particular,did much to help assess the translation.The last chapter is conclusion.Major findings and problems are explained in this chapter.
