Research On The State Power Of The Western Han Dynasty And Relation With The Rangers Rising And Falling

Ranger first appeared in the turbulent Spring and Autumn Period and Warring state period.For they were the people that like making friends with guests, put other people’s benefit in the first place, they gained a wide social influence and great power. They have their own developent process,from Spring and Autumn Period and Warring state period to Qin dynasty and Han dynasty, rangers growed into a strong nongovernmental power.Rangers were growing in the turbulence days, who reached the peak in the early Western Han dynasty. At that time, the government followed the "letting things take their own course" philosophy(a Taoist concept of human conduct), the social system was not complete. What’s more, fiefs stood in great numbers, personnel selection system was a total mess.For those lack of control of the national government, the local government ruled by the former existence authorities, the rangers had to follow what they did in Spring and Autumn Period and Warring state period, threw themselves into the local power. Ranger is under such background hold the balance,left his gorgeous figure.The government dissatisfaction current situation,change of social situation is inevitable.Though they shone like brilliant sunlight, they faded away like fleeting fireworks. During the mid-to-late Western Han dynasty, the "letting things take their own course" philosophy fulfilled its mission, the national government chose to decrees unification,the new Confucianism instead. Fiefs were abolished one after another, personnel selection system grew completed, rangers had to re-consider their own way-out.Countries in the local control gradually strengthen,ranger’s survival space will be squeezed,step by step until the decline. As the representative of the local power, their power were related to the national government’s control towards the local government. This essay describe the situation of national government’s control towards the local government, as to describe the surviving environment of the rangers.There were two sides of the rangers. On the one side, rangers dared to take the lead, helped the common people for nothing in return, which gained common people’s support, made the complementary to the deficiency of the national government. On the other side, rangers were disciplined,arrogant. Their behavior of lawlessness had a bad influence of the nation’s legal system and common people’s life. For the country, ranger either as a supplement to the national power shortage, or as antagonistic factors exist, will to fight, will not let such influential groups out of the state system, to combat depends on whether national capacity is enough to take action. As the state apparatus became stronger, this special group’s decline is unavoidable. Though this group declined and fell, their chivalrous spirit passed on.
