As one of the countries which found the new world,Spain had the vast American colonies,and controlled the Atlantic passage from Europe to America.If Britain wanted to rise,it would inevitably conflict with Spain.And Britain-Spain trade conflict in the first half of the 18th century was one of the steps of which Britain towards the maritime supremacy.
