Comprehensive courses assume the responsibility of study comprehensive knowledge of speech such as voice, vocabulary, grammar and the verbal skills such as listening, speaking, reading and translating as a main course, so it has a very important significance in Chinese foreign teaching. Textbook are the carrier of comprehensive knowledge of speech and verbal skills, it can guide learner how to improve the ability of language. Basically, knowledge of speech and language skills can’t be taught, it can only be learned. Therefore, it’s necessary to design choreographed exercise. According to the research, we find out that the researches of comprehensive course are mainly about compiling the textbooks, textbook evaluation specific training content such as vocabulary, grammar and characters. These researches are mainly in the foundation stage but the researches of intermediate stage are less at the same time. The intermediate stage plays a role of bridge in Chinese learning as a nexus stage. Therefore, this article selects the exercises in Developing Chinese, Charming Chinese and Experiencing Chinese three textbooks as subject investigated. To analysis the terms of the principles and purpose, the amount of exercises, practice questions of the exercise content, language skills and so on, giving suggestions of the design of exercises in textbook in intermediate stage.The first part is introduction. In this part, we introduce the aim and the significance of topic, the basis of research and study. To define "intermediate" according to outline, experts and textbooks three parts. This part also describes the research methods and statistical standards and summarized the research of exercises in the textbook in intermediate stage.The second part is the writing purpose and writing principles of textbooks’ exercises in intermediate stage. We analyze the writing purpose and writing principles of textbooks’ exercise in intermediate stage and give the suggestions of aim and principle of writing textbooks’ exercises in intermediate stage.The third part is the analysis of the numbers of exercise capacity, the kinds of questions, exercises to practice content and practice of language skills. The analysis of the numbers of exercises is from the total amount of the exercises of these three textbooks and the numbers of exercises in every lesson and every unit and the average number of exercises in every lesson and every unit. The analysis of the type of exercises is from the amount of exercises, the numbers of exercises in every lesson and every unit, average amount of diversify kinds of exercises, exercises generalization and differentiation. The content of exercises involves voice, vocabulary, sentence, characters and discourse, and get some suggestions from this five parts; the practice of language skills main analyze the languages skills such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, translating and giving the suggestions of language skills.The innovation of this paper is when the Chinese learners of intermediate stage 1 earning Chinese, the cognitive and demand of exercise capacity, the kinds of question s, exercises contents and language skills through the questionnaire design.Combined with the outline and some opinions of experts, this paper proposed that it is suitable th at the proportion of time for the class-exercises and after class-practice is 1:1-1.5.The time of exercises in intermediate stage textbooks are around 20 minutes.lt is n ecessary that not only to train learners listening,speaking,reading,writing,but also to tr ain them the skills of translating.
