The Analects of Confucius has always been very attractive to researchers of Confucianism. During its spread overseas, scholars are quite interested in studying some certain key words like "ä»", "礼" and "å›å". This thesis aims at searching academic communication and cognition in the USA through one concept——"å'Œ", which has been less focused before, helping us to make efforts in culture popularizing. In this thesis, the first chapter introduces the meaning of "å'Œ" in the analects of Confucius, the ancient Chinese philosophy system, through comparing "å'Œ" with "ä»", "礼", "åŒ","中" and "争", showing a comprehensive display of the concept of the traditional "å'Œ" connotation, also its further development in modern Chinese academia. Then in the second chapter introduces how the Analects and the concept of "å'Œ" was spreading in the United States academia and its cognitive situation. The researchers’results mainly summed up in three aspects: society, culture and education. "å'Œ" is regarded as a kind of pursuit of an ideal society, but in China we most probably get "å'Œ" by the lead of moral models rather than the legal system; "å'Œ" and "ä»" is closely related to the Chinese people’s emphasis on "礼" is the key to the interpersonal harmony; Confucius also seek to achieve a kind of equality and purely inspiration in his education, in the "å'Œ" state. This chapter also analyzes the content of the former chapter and made little supplements. The American scholars are discovered in the study of their existing errors, innovation, and loss. "å'Œ" is easy to be mistaken for the pursuit of "大åŒ!" at the cost of loss of personal will with only obey, sacrifice; "å'Œ" has been found in the cultural exchange involving Chinese and western thinking barriers; Although "å'Œ" is a kind of world view, the harmony of man and nature is less concerned by researchers. Finally, according to the analysis, it brings us beneficial enlightenments in the aspect of teaching Chinese as a second language and culture, respectively by appropriate means to achieve better effect of culture teaching and encourage the communication of academicians to popularize the Chinese culture better. Also a step-by-step strategy is needed.
