Otgontenger University, built in 1990, is a large and comprehensive private university. As a volunteer teacher of NOCFL(National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language), I have worked there for two semesters since October 2014. The main courses that I taught were basic and intermediate oral Chinese. This paper emphatically analyzes and probes some problems of basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses, and offers the solutions based on my two semesters’ teaching practices. The main body of the article divides into three parts: the teaching situation of basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses in Otgontenger University; the problems and causes of basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses in Otgontenger University and some suggestions. From viewing teacher arrangement, basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses draw enough attention. The teaching contents focus on textbooks. Traditional teaching mode is the main teaching method. Games are interspersed in classroom teaching to rouse students’ interest. University characteristic is almost all the Chinese courses are cooperatively taught by a Chinese teacher and a Mongolian teacher and this cooperation will be adjusted by the improvement of students’ Chinese. Although a lot of achievements were attained, Otgontenger University still remains some problems to discuss in Chinese teaching, especially in basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses. The three problems of the university are as follows: problem in courses arrangements and linking, inadequate in students’ textbooks and teaching equipments are inconveniences to use. The teachers remain some problems as limitation of theoretical level, improper arrangement of course contents. The problems of students’ oral Chinese study could divide into two aspects: related to language elements and non-related to language elements. In allusion to the problems mentioned above, I provide some corresponding suggestions. University needs to optimize the course arrangements, increase financial input of textbook, manage teaching equipments overall and optimize classes setting. Teachers need to improve one’s own Chinese level, arrange reasonable course contents and make full use of video material to improve the interesting of classroom teaching. In allusion to the problems of students’ oral Chinese study, I also offer some corresponding suggestions. It is expected that all these suggestions may effectively improve teaching effectiveness of basic and intermediate oral Chinese courses of Otgontenger University.
