Classical Chinese poetry and the literary form which developed from it, known as Ci, played a significant role in China’s long musical history. These genres went through many stages of development throughout the changing dynasties, reaching a peak during the Song Dynasty. Most Chinese are familiar with masterpieces from this era which are performed by highly trained singers using a very specialised singing technique.This essay gives an account of the development of Song Ci and describes in detail the particular characteristics of Ci which led to the development of this specialised singing technique, devised specifically for the performance of these works.Professor Sufen Wang, the one of greatest expert on contemporary classical poetry melodies and songs, made a tremendous process on development of ancient melodies. Not only had she song a great deal of classical poetry songs of distinct dynasties and ages herself in terms of enhancing this treasure from grand sire as a protector, but also cultivated and reserved a huge quantity of relevant talents in the long run as a pioneer. This tremendous effort on reserving ancient culture really touches the public figure around whole society.
