Objective: To evaluate the mental health and distribution regularity of the elder minorities of rural area in Guangxi, and analyses the impact of factors such as demography characteristics, religious belief, especial customs and habits to the mental health of elder minorities, elucidate mechanisms between them. The study will have active realistic significance to health consciousness of Zhuang nation old people and changing their undesirable customs, and will have significant learning value to the national psychology research of country.Methods: By means of many phases stratified cluster system sampling, according to the definition of Zhuang typical hierarchical living county by government, take the elders of Mingwu county as research group. According to the balanced comparable of life and economic levels, take the Han nation old people in Guanyang county as control group. The questionnaires including family form and the elderly individual basic information form were used to acquaint the object family and personal basic situation. Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) was used to reflect the mental health situation of elders. Epidata 3.1 was used to set up a database and double entry check. All of the data were dealt with by software SPSS 19.0. The main methods of statistics were variance analysis, chi-square test, t-test and Logistic regression analyses. Inspection level for alpah=0.05.Result:1.The internal consistent reliability coefficient and the Split-Half reliability coefficient of the whole SCL-90 was 0.992 and 0.860 respectively, and the internal consistent reliability coefficient and Split-Half reliability coefficient of each factors of SCL-90 was 0.518-0.732 and 0.491-0.771. Correlations between items and the factor it belonged to were bigger than that between it and other factors except 22, 59, 60 and 89.2.The positive rate of mental symptom of Zhuang nation old people of rural area in Guangxi was 28.3%. Compared to the research group, except the factor of depression, all the other 9 factors have significant difference(P<0.01), the Zhuang had the lowest scores.3.Mental health conditions have different features in different populations. Mental health conditions of elder people of rural area in Guangxi was influenced by such factors as sex, education status, marital status, chronic disease, average annual income and housing types.4.By means of non-conditional univariate Logistic regression analysis, it was found that there were 6 factors including age, sex, religious belief, chronic disease, hospitalization and housing types are dangerous factors, and the OR in every factors were between 1.104-2.382.Conclusion:1.SCL-90 have fairly good validity and reliability, and can be used to investigate the Zhuang nation old people of rural area. But some should be revised to meet the demand of the people in low literacy.2.Mental health situation of Zhuang nation old people of rural area in Guangxi are much better than the Han nation old people. It is affected by the factors as sex, education status, marital status, chronic disease, average annual income and housing types.3.Age, sex, religious belief, chronic disease, hospitalization and housing types are positive dangerous factors of the mental symptom in Zhuang nation old people of rural area in Guangxi.
