A Study On The Chinese Popular Network Language Styles From Perspective Of Communication 5W Theory

This thesis mainly uses Lasswell’s 5W communication theory and gatekeeping theory to analyze the collected 133 network language styles from communication perspective. Qualitative approach is employed to analyze the data and explore the following questions:What is the communication model of network language styles? What are the social functions of network language styles? What the factors that affect the popularity of network language styles?The results indicate that the social functions of network language styles are surveillance, coordination, transmission of social heritage and entertainment. Entertainment is the main social function. Based on the collected data, the network language styles come from the following fields, which are literary works, films and television, social events, celebrities, commercial advertisements and emotional release. The social events’type and celebrities’type make up more than half. The celebrity effects and commercial advertising effects become the external reasons of network language styles’popularity. Apart from these, the internal factor lies in audiences’entertainment and conformist mentality.Through the analysis of the popular network language styles, the author hopes to help people know more about network language styles and make a contribution to relative studies.
