The "network micro-styles", a language phenomenon prevailing on the Internet in recent years, are the outcome of present technology and ways of communication. The "network micro-styles" became the leading language phenomenon of the new Internet culture with its unique manner, even though they share some similarities with other network languages. The "network micro-styles", which are developing rapidly, come from a variety of sources and diversify in forms, contents and functions. The "network micro-styles" relate to disciplines such as pragmatics, rhetoric and social psychology. The "network micro-styles", which are frequently transformed while spreading, have styli zed structures or unique discourse styles with different variants of contents and also mirrors social hot spots. Despite their short existence, the "network micro-styles" have an influence not only on the network language, but also on the discourses in the daily life. Therefore it is necessary to discuss, analyze and sort the "network micro-styles" in a methodical way, which is the aim of the dissertation. This dissertation is divided into six chapters.The first chapter introduces the background of choosing this subject, summarizes the present studies on this subject and their value and describes the content of the dissertation and its methodology.The second chapter is the definition of the "network micro-styles", which explains similarities and differences between the "network micro-styles" and traditional styles of stylistics. It also presents the production and development of the "network micro-styles" and determines the group of people who often use the "network micro-styles" and how popular the "network micro-styles" are in different fields of life.The third chapter, the description of the "network micro-styles", is the most important part of this dissertation. It mainly analyzes the prototypes and imitations of the "network micro-styles". The "network micro-styles" can be classified according to the research of naming and prototypes. According to the naming patterns, the "network micro-styles" can be divided into five categories and according to the sorting of the prototypes, the "network micro-styles" can be divided into two categories. This chapter also points out four features of the "network micro-styles" that are different from other network languages.The fourth chapter explains the reasons of the formation of the "network micro-styles" This chapter can be divided into three parts. The first part introduces the "kuso" culture in the "network micro-styles". The second part is about the pervasion of the "network micro-styles" and the theory of memetics. The third part is about the imitations of the "network micro-styles" and parodies of them.The fifth chapter summarized the influence of the "network micro-styles" on social life, and on contemporary Chinese language and a prediction of future development of the "net work micro-styles".The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the dissertation.
