A Study On Diaoyucheng City

The site of Diaoyucheng City is located on the Diaoyushan Hill in the east of Hechuan District,Chongqing.The city was built in the Southern Song jiaxi four years(1240)preliminarily, and in the Southern Song chunyou three years(1243) was built on a large scale. Then,the two large-scale constructions built respectively in the Southern Song dynasty baoyou four-years(1254) and jingding four years(1263).Fanally formed the famous "Diaoyucheng City" in history. Diaoyucheng City didn’t breach on the military in the 36 years war between the Meng(Yuan) dynasty and south song dynasty, but has been broken down by the army of the yuan dynasty on a large scale. After the Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasty and the Republic of China, more than 700 years, we see a fixed diaoyucheng city today which was destroyed and repaired repeatedly from the long history. Diaoyucheng city was built by south song dynasty for steming attack from meng(yuan) dynasty’army in sichuan province, and became the core in the sichuan defense system of the south song dynasty with superior geographical position and its own unique tight defense system. Diaoyucheng city is a classic case of the city’s defense sistem in history of our ancient military war.Based on the summary and research of former people, this article has systematically and particularly studied the diaoyucheng city in the aspects of their historical origin and development, layout of the city,defense system and its characteristic,status and role in the war.The variety of methods which I used include the combines historical literatures,archaeological studies and views on the spot.By this way,I fully understand the root cause of the diaoyucheng city is in an impregnable position.First of all, the article started with location and topography of the diaoyucheng city for lay a foundation of historical study and research.Secondly,with the help of histirical literatures,the article transited to the research of the city’s building background,figured out the main line of the war between meng(yuan) dynasty and south song dynasty,interpreted the defensive considerations and the sichuan defense system of south song dynasty,cleared diaoyucheng city’s role in the defense system, narrated three large-scale building in the city. Thirdly,it analysed the layout of the diaoyucheng city with historical literatures,archaeological studies and inspection on site. Fourthly, it analysed and narrated the characteristic of the city and the defense system.finally,the article instructed the damagement,repairment and role of the diaoyucheng city.
