A Study Of Zhang Jizhong’s Literary Creation And Ci Selection

Zhang Jizhong is the founder of the north sect of Taigu school in Qing Dynasty who left behind an impressive list of literary works. He exerted an extensive social influence then, but most of the time the study about him was concentrated on his life story and the case of Huangya Jiao. By analysing these texts of the poem collective of Baishi House, the prose collective of Baishi House, the Ci collective of Baishi House and the Ci selection of Qianbi House, we can understand his unique personality charm and literary attainments.First of all, on the base of the principal “Making Comments on Literary Figures and Their Proposition", the paper introduces Zhang Jizhong’s life story, his literary works and his literary writing background. The Qing government was faced with troubles at home and aggression from abroad, so Zhang Jizhong’s literary creation and the Ci selection had the characteristics of the times. Then it analyses carefully the theme orientation of the poems in the collective of Baishi House from several aspects such as concerning about the responsory and presenting, attaching emotion to mountain and river, reflection on natural objects, inscription on literary works, fairy wondering and remembrance of the deceased, and points out the art features of his poem as follows: the full use of taking advantage of a scene to express his emotion, series of poems and literary quotation. What’s more, it analyses specifically the characteristics of subject matter in the prose collective of Baishi House according to Yao Nai’s Anthology of Classical Prose, and describes the artistic characteristics from these aspects: continuous using of duality, changeable syntactical structure, combination of three religions and powerful rationality. In the end, it makes a survey on his Ci contents and features and major elements of the Ci collective of Qianbi House, and draw out Zhang Jizhong’s viewpoints of Ci. In the Ci collective of Baishi House, he grieved over the passing of spring or feel sad with the advent of autumn. Volume forty-second of Cizong Addendum incorporates three pieces of his Ci. And his Ci selection gives priority to Tang and Song Ci to remember famous Ci and Ci –poets. These works emphasize the musical property, implicit language style and the social function of emotional catharsis.
