Guilin Dialect in the thesis is a kind of Chinese dialects used in the Guilin city generally, which is a standard dialect of Southwest Mandarin in Guangxi. Basing on the study of scholars before, the thesis take the Guilin dialect as study subject to investigate further more from the point of dialectology and social linguistics.The whole paper is divided into three main parts:The first part contains the introduction. This part aims to introduce several background information of the study in the thesis.The second part is the major part of the whole paper, including the chapters one to four. This part develops a more comprehensive model of dialectal phonetic study.The first to third chapters make a description and comparison of Guilin dialect according to the traditional typical model of dialect phonetic study, namely "dialect-Mandarin-Middle Chinese", to reveal the phonetic features of Guilin dialect statically and synchronically.The forth chapter discusses a series of phonetic issues about variation and change in Guilin dialect the auther found when investigated in person, so add the "variation and change" into the model mentioned before to build a new model, that is "dialect-Mandarin-Middle Chinese-variation and change". Therefore, combining the traditional description, historical comparison and phonetic variation&change, it is able to explain the phonetic characters of Guilin dialect and its development better, so that we can give references to the following scholars’study, as well as the research of phonetic history.The last part is the conclusion. In this part, it summarizes the whole study of the dissertation, and points out the defects in it. Besides, it gives the directions of the future study. At the end of this paper, there is a appendix contains some long oral corpus of Guilin dialect.
