The Effect Of Self-construals On Social Anxiety:Mediating Role Of Emotion Regulation

Social anxiety as a common mental problem, not only affect our social affair, but also affect our life quality. It is influenced by Eastern and Western different self-construal, individuals from different cultures will form different ways of emotion regulation so as to effect social anxiety level.This study combined experimental and questionnaire method, through two study the before and after, to investigate how social anxiety affected by different cultures from the perspective of self-construct, and test the mediating effect of emotion registration.This study combines two sub studies:Study1 is experimental method, the aim is to test under different priming, whether the different is significant in social anxiety. The independent variable priming is independent self-construal and interdependent self-construal, dependent variable is social anxiety, which measured by scales.Study2 on the conclusion of study 1, use questionnaire method to test the relationship among self-construal, social anxiety and emotion regulation, and test the role of emotion regulation.The results support our hypothesis, the main conclusion is:(1) priming self-construal will affect social anxiety, and interdependent self-construal reported higher social anxiety than independent self-construal.(2)interdependent self-construal indirectly influences on social anxiety by the mediating role of expression suppression, has an indirect positive effect.(3) independent self-construal,one hand, directly influences social anxiety, has a direct negative effect; on the other hand, indirectly influences on social anxiety by the mediating role of expression suppresion and cognitive reappraisal, has an indirect negative effect.
