Virtue is a core concept of republicanism, playing a very important role both in the classical and modern republic. The virtue of Machiavelli mainly investigates the tension of republicanism in history from the effect of the development of the republicanism through the concept of the political virtue of Machiavelli. From Plato,Aristotle, the ancient Roman republic to the Renaissance of Machiavelli, even to the British and American continents, which have the republican traditions. The pulse of the development of the republic traditions cannot separate from the influence of what virtue contributed. The beauty of the virtues of Machiavelli plays an extremely significant role. This thesis discusses the word, virtue, explores its transformation in history, and the origin of western modern crisis based on above stated developed path. First, the period of the classical republicanism, represented by Plato’s virtue concept, states that the values of justice are needed in order to build a utopia. Aristotle thinks that virtue is the need of the ability of prudence in participating the political lives. On the other hand, the ancient Romans think that the virtual citizens should possess the ability and morality of serving public affairs. Machiavelli separates virtue from the rationalism of Aristotle and the public spirit of the ancient Rome. Virtue was endowed with more political and practical utilities, eventually affecting England, France, and other European countries as well as the ocean on the west shore of colonial America. The resistance of property, commerce, and desire with virtue was endowed with a stronger meaning in politics and utilities, achieving virtue from the changes of "moral-centered" to "system-centered". Machiavelli was an important historical figure in the classical politics and the modern politics science, his ideas about politics and virtue deeply influenced England, the United States, and even today’s society as a whole.
