Zong Pu is one of the few woman writers possessing academy temperament and brilliant talents in contemporary literature history, whose rich scholarliness makes her literary creation show the gentle style different from the contemporary writers. As for the intellectuals lived actively at different times, whether they were in high spirit when fighting in a war or drifting from place to place in difficulty and distress over the flow of time, Zong Pu vividly describes these intellectuals lived in different historical stage with her elegant writing. Innate cultural quality and continuing writing in her life enable Zong Pu to cleverly make connections between the "intellectuality" and "wit", building a bridge for literature with the clearing heart of intellectuals."Wild Gourd" is Zong Pu’s representative work displaying the soul qualities of academy intellectuals during the Anti-Japanese War in all-round way, in which intellectuals gave up their weak bookishness and became an important force in the war of resistance. They honored the old adage of “With the skin gone, to what can the hair attach itself? ” and kept their deep love for their home land in the era of war, firmly believing that the country will never perish. They insisted on the academic pursuit and exploration, describing their own academic life in that unstable days. They didn’t give up the Confucian and Taoist spirits reflecting traditional intellectuals’ supreme pursuit---- “being concern about the country and the people before anything else”."Red Bean" “The Great Stone” "Who am I" "Reunion" and other works, with special era as their creation backgrounds, Zong Pu constantly places the intellectuals in unrest and turning situation in the "intersection" featured by soul and destiny: Facing the choice between the “individual” and “collective”, intellectuals abandoned the “individual” and chose the “collective” in the fate of choice, giving up their personal interest and pursuit for the sake of collective ideal. We can feel their state of mind when struggling in the dilemma of love, an d be moved by their repression, persistence and compromise showed in front of love when they kept the ideal, faith and moral responsibilities in mind. In the edge of loyalty and betrayal, we can see the intellectuals’ hopeless and stubborn when they were in distress and suffering, sticking to the dignity of the intellectuals in turbulent times, or giving up themselves and drifting with the current.Zong Pu’s academy style in her creation stems from her loving care for and persistent attention to the intellectuals. Whether in the pursuit of the ideal, or in the pursuit of the reality, Zong Pu always shows her endless love for the growth and maturation of intellectuals with a dedicated heart. Born in a scholarly family, reading extensively books both in Chinese and in foreign languages, growing up in the campus with flames of war, and becoming mature in the unrest home country, all of these enable Zong Pu all along to keep an eye on the fate of Chinese intellectuals from the perspective of a senior intellectual, giving her works with strong flavors of academy unknowingly.
