The Ecological Narrative Of Calvino’s Novels

As the most important Italian writer in 20 th century, Calvino’s creation and thinking implies a strong ecological awareness. He integrates ecological awareness into literary narrative in the creative process,so that the narrative theme and style have ecological factors.His works reflect a writer’s profound ecological overall concept, he ideologically opposes to anthropocentrism, and concerns the relationship between man and nature, man and man, man and society,he reflects the gradually decline of human spirit home and explore the outlet of the modern human.In this paper, with the perspective of ecological narrative criticism, be supported by narrative theory,combining the resources of the ecological criticism and the theory of ecological aesthetics to explore the association between Calvino’s text and ecology, aiming to explore the extent which is perceived in the real world through the "virtual world" which is characterized by text and explore the contact between text world and the real world.This paper is divided into three parts of introduction, paper body and the conclusion:Introduction is mainly a holistic presentation about Calvino and his writings,domestic and foreign research review as well as the significance and the idea of doing this paper.The first chapter mainly discusses the "possible worlds" in the text ecological mirror. The imagine color "possible worlds" is the typical ecological paradigm of his ecological consciousness to afterlife, with ecological utopia. His real color of the industrial world shows his critique of industrial and technological civilization,but it isn’t lack of warmth and hope,it shows the ecological characteristics of his strong repair of reality rather than the negativity. This chapter on the bases of the theory of possible worlds to explore the characterize interaction between text world with real world.The second chapter is to analyze the characterization form of ecological narrative in Calvino’s works,mainly on the ecological imagery and ecological theme of his work how to construct his ecological overall concept. He externalize the real world experience into a narrative world,achieves characterization of the world throughmetaphor,which is rooted in the image schema.This imagery group appear repeatedly,it has a profound meaning and aesthetic connotation and services to the subject, thus demonstrates the author’s ecological view.The third chapter discusses the Calvino’s ecological narrative strategy, analyzes the text ecological connotation is presented by which narrative techniques.To confirm the work ecological theme and the ecological thinking of the author by analyzing the narrative point of view, narrative sequence and non-narrative discourse.The conclusion illustrates Calvino’s works still have realistic significance in today.
