With the intentions of passing on Chinese history, developing Hunan culture, advocating the commercial experience of Hunan merchants, and showing the landscapes of Huxiang, more and more local works introducing Hunan history and culture have been translated into foreign languages, which have gone out of Hunan, or even China. Huxiang Fengtu Ji is a works of Huxiang culture especially focusing on the ancient commercial city of Hongjiang. It introduces six themes on the culture and history, methods of making business, tourist attractions, regional cultures and religious cultures, stories of history and folklores, and food cultures in Hunan Province. It has a great historical value and realistic significance to study and spread Huxiang culture. The translator chooses the ancient commercial city of Hongjiang in Huxiang Fengtu Ji as this translation project, and translates its four chapters and parts, namely, formation, features, layout, and constructions(Yinzi House, Liuyuan Garden and Guild House) of the ancient commercial city of Hongjiang. In the process of translation, based on the semantic and communicative translation theories proposed by Peter Newmark, the translator categories the typical problems into three types, namely, terms, four-character idioms, poetries and proverbs; meanwhile she tries using different corresponding translation strategies to deal with these three types.
