Memetics, based on Darwin’s evolutionary theory, has the strong explanatory power to the law of the cultural development, and is getting more and more attention from other research field. Due to the close connection between culture and language, memetics has a wide range of applications in the field of second language acquisition. According to their ability to spread, Language memes can be divided into the strong ones and the weak ones. In order to survive, All the language memes must successfully experience through four subsequent stages: assimilation, retention, expression and transmission. By analyzing the characteristics and problems of CET-4 writing language, the thesis summarized the strong CET-4 English writing language memes, and tried to establish the CET-4 writing language meme pool. By combining the four developing stages of language meme with the traditional product and process approaches of writing studying, the thesis aimed to establish a complete CET-4 writing studying approach which is based on the language memetics. In the end, the thesis proved the effectiveness of the study through the specific empirical research.In this thesis, our study was carried out around two issues: firstly, Can memetics CET-4 writing studying approach be more helpful for improving the students’ English writing proficiency in CET-4 than the traditional English writing studying approaches? Secondly Can memetics CET-4 writing studying approach change the students’ attitudes and opinions towards English writing?The primary research method will be both qualitative and quantitative. Questionnaire, writing test and the interview were used. The experiment lasted 10 weeks. Both the experimental group and the control group were tested before and after the experiment, and the data were collected and analyzed by SPSS( 20.0). In the end, the questionnaire survey and the random face to face interview were conducted among the students from the experimental group to know their attitudes towards the whole experiment.Finally, the results of the study indicate that memetics CET-4 writing studying approach do improve the students’ writing skills in CET-4 writing test and change their negative attitudes towards English writing. In the future, students can continue to improve their English writing level through using this writing studying approach which they have systematically mastered.There still exist some deficiencies in the present study. Nevertheless, this study can provide a lot of valuable practical reference and suggestions for the further college English writing teaching and studying. Also, it may inspire more researchers and scholars to make great efforts on this aspect in the future.
