With the rise of the tourism, the hotel industry has developed rapidly. This puts forward higher requirements to the hotel employees, which are professional skills, cooperative and innovative spirit and high English proficiency. However, on the other hand, qualified hotel practitioners possessing both proficient professional skills and foreign language communicational skills are evidently insufficient in number, which restricts the development of china’s hotel industry and reduce the employment space of the graduates. Therefore, while teaching hotel English, teachers should take the enhancement of students’ oral English ability as the top priority.Task-based approach firstly appeared in 1980 s, it emphasizes on learner-centered teaching mode. By means of completing tasks, students can grasp the target language through analysis, cooperation and discussion, which will not only cultivate students’ professional ability, but also develop their comprehensive language application ability. This paper is targeted to explore how to apply TBA effectively to enhance students learning interest, attitude and motivation as well as prompt their English proficiency in hotel English class. This study adopts empirical research combining qualitative analyses and quantitative analyses together. The sample(N=35) is randomly chosen from the students majoring in hotel management in Dalian Model Art School, in which male is 8 students and female is 27 students. During the process of applying task-based approach into hotel English instruction, the data is collected through two questionnaires, pre-text and post-text. The analysis is conducted on the scores of two tests processed by SPSS16.0 respectively. The result are described and analyzed to find out the feasibility and effects of applying task-based approach into hotel English instruction to improve students’ English proficiency. In the end, the author concludes the major findings, implications and limitations of the empirical study, together with some suggestions for the further study.
