Task-based language teaching (TBLT) emerged in the 1980s and it is getting more and more popular both at home and abroad. Learner-centered, TBLT focuses on meaning rather than on form and it emphasizes learning by doing. Learners can improve their language and develop their abilities to do things and solve problems through communicative interaction and meaningful negotiation. In vocational schools, language learning is closely related to students'majors. Learners should be able to finish the tasks their future job demands, so it is necessary to take TBLT as the main teaching approach for Hotel English courses in vocational schools.This thesis discusses how to apply TBLT in hotel English courses, analyzing the current status of language teaching, discussing the principles, sources, content, difficulty and evaluation of task design in TBLT through experiments. The result shows that TBLT is feasible and effective in Hotel English teaching.There are seven chapters in the thesis. In the first chapter, the author points out the great gap between the language abilities of the students and the demands of the hotel industry. Therefore, teachers should seek an effective teaching mode to bridge the gap. Besides, the ways, aims and significance of the thesis are also discussed. The second chapter introduces the theoretical base, the definition and the present research situation of TBLT both at home and abroad. The third chapter presents the status quo of secondary vocational school students and the curriculum design for the Hotel English course, indicating that TBLT is suitable for the trend and demands of vocational education. In the fourth chapter, the author concentrates on the achievements her own school has made so far and analyzes the existing problems. The fifth chapter discusses the principles, sources, content, difficulty and evaluation of task design in TBLT. The sixth chapter describes the experiment with examples. The last chapter is about data collection, experiment results, and the limitations of the experiment.
