Shen Deqian, leader of poets in the middle times of Emperor Qianlong, was famous for writing poetry and comments. Tang and Song Dynasty Eight Text Reader was encoded in the fifteen year of Qianlong which was appropriate for the normative writing style in feudal prime ages, embodying Shen Deqian’s prose opinion and prose theory. In addition,it produced a huge response in Japan after its publication. What’s more, it not only laid the foundation for the literature exchange between China and Japan, but also as a literature evidence for the communication of China and Japan. However, Scholars always pay more attention to Shen Deqian and his poetry theory and poetry anthology, ignoring the research of his ancient prose theory. Therefore, It is necessary to study Shen Deqian’s Tang and Song Eight Text Reader in-depth.The paper is divided into four chapters: the first chapter focuses on Shen Deqian’s motivation of compiling Tang and Song Eight Text Reader and discusses his version on the whole. The compilation of Reader was carried out in the background of extensive prose repairing to standardize prose style during the reign of Qing government. As a result,Shen’s ideas was in accordance with the official thoughts. Shen Deqian was involved in the imperial examinations all his life diligently, so there was no doubt that he compiled readers conducive to imperial examinations; Shen’s special experience as a teacher in Shishu added a feature for Tang and Song Eight Text Reader. Then the paper discusses the version of Reader and the book case. The second chapter discusses the selected texts in Reader. In this part, it will focus on the contrast analysis of Shen’s Reader, Qianlong’s imperial edition of “Tang and song literature” and Mao Kun’s Tang Song Ba Da Jia Wen Chao, exploring the genre characteristics, the selection of the style, aesthetic standards.The third chapter studied the ancient prose theory from the literary view, grammar theory and talent conservation theory and analyzed the ancient theory characteristics. The fourth chapter analyzed the basic situation of Reader’s spreading. The main analysis of the Reader in this chapter is the possibility of Reader’s spreading to Japan and its important influence on Japan.
