As a widely appreciated anthology of tang poetry in Qing Dynasty, the Special Collection of Tang Poetry is of great significance to the research of tang poetry, which has been revised four times in nearly half a century, and the content of which explains Shen’s ideal and concept in poetics. Therefore, in order to understand the point of view of Shen in poetics and tang poetry, deep research in the Special Collection of Tang Poetry is required.We can make an investigation on the model of tang poetry in the view of Shen Deqian according to the study of the representatives of tang poetry, which are gentle and sincere, perfect and grand, selected and commented by Shen. Firstly, gentleness and sincerity, as the mode of the idea content, is explained by loyalty and patriotism contained in poetry and expressing feelings in a tender way; Secondly, perfection as the model of expression of feelings, is effective to express the process of poetry creating and the integration of the content and skill of poetry, which is illustrated by Shen’s transformation of Li Bai’s figure, and the way to achieve perfection in Shen’s point of view and the cultural meaning of supernatural Li Bai are studied; Thirdly, grandness is demonstrated by Li Bai, Du Fu and Wang Wei’s poetries, which represent three kinds of grandness, and Shen’s viewpoint of grandness in tang poetry is deeply researched. These three dimensions of tang poetry above are most important in Shen’s viewpoint of tang poetry, which are discussed in three chapters.Thus, it is considered that gentleness and sincerity, perfectness and grandness are the most important factors which affect Shen’s choices and opinions on poetries, by which Shen’s viewpoint of tang poetry is constructed.
