Folk culture is an all-embracing culture which involves a wide scope. As an important part of folk culture, folk entertainment plays a large role in people’s lives which can not be ignored. Folk culture plays a vital role in creating a culture atmosphere, continuing Chinese culture, enhancing national cohesion, and other aspects of cultural identity. As one of the ancient capital of eight dynasties, Kaifeng has a long history with deep accumulation traditional cultural, and the folk culture was well preserved. The Folk entertainment is the most directly reflection on people’s lives and social development, which is the window of researching Kaifeng traditional culture.This paper consists of the introduction, body and conclusion. Choose Kaifeng City entertainment folk tradition as a research object, and based on the reality of material investigation and research, for the development of Kaifeng City from traditional folk entertainment and other related issues, trying to put forward some views and suggestions to the protection of traditional folk entertainment. Under the tourism environment, a lot of folk culture in Kaifeng can be maintained at today’s dynamic, and the folk entertainment can also benefit from it, still occupy the large needs of society in the social life. The paper studies the most common three traditional recreation activities in the daily life like Pangu, Kite flying and Cock-fighting.In order to have more comprehensive and realistic understanding of the development status of Kaifeng traditional folk entertainment in people’s lives at this moment, we use questionnaires and interviews to conduct in-depth investigation, summed up the status of the development of traditional folk entertainment, mainly related to the distribution of the population ages participate in recreation activities, sex distribution, participation and awareness of traditional folk entertainment and so on.Through the situation analysis, summarized the challenges of the development of traditional folk entertainment in Kaifeng. There are three main aspects:Facing the new gaming entertainment in the new era, traditional entertainment performance has less attractive; Contrary to the essential meaning of the traditional entertainment after some changes in traditional entertainment; the development margins have been squeezed and only can survive in the cracks. However, people still have high recognition of the traditional folk entertainment in the emotional level. It mainly reflected in the social values, cultural values and economic values. Then faced these problems, this paper proposes some protection principles on traditional folk entertainment:protection principles, regional interests principles, sustainable development principles and co-operative principles.Only in the local living environment and combined with sustainable development can maintain the vitality of inheritance and development of traditional folk entertainment. The positioning tourist city of Kaifeng City provides a new opportunities and new models to the development of traditional folk entertainment.This paper describes in details about the development of the tourism and other related industries aspects. Millennium City park is a typical example of folk culture and tourism development of Kaifeng, the theme of folk tourism also involves a lot of traditional folk entertainment content. In terms of the development of other related industries, there has achieved some positive results on cultural industries and the development of physical products. And also the opening of traditional folk entertainment and cultural representation of some ethnic folk custom thing has been included in the intangible cultural heritage protection list.In the new era, we still have a long way to go to protect traditional culture of Kaifeng traditional folk entertainment. The research may not bring substantial help for the national cultural revival, but the essence of national culture will certainly not be lost when people pay close attention to the most indispensable details in daily life.
