Fuxi and Nvwa is the great god of creation in Chinese mythology. They have the extremely widespread belief foundation in China. The belief of Fuxi and Nvwa is the product of China’s agrarian times. In the recent years, with the increasing archaeological data, a large number of images about Fuxi and Nvwa were unearthed,which provides important information for us to study the belief of Fuxi and Nvwa,and the spreading of Chinese civilization.In the ancient time, Gansu belongs to Yongzhou, located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, which is the important position in the ancient Silk Road, also an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, an important treasure trove of Chinese culture resources. Based on the available information, in total, there are 29 archaeological remains of Fuxi and Nvwa’s images. Among them, including 3 murals,8 portraits bricks, 11 coffin paintings, 1 pottery pots 1, and 6 statues. They distributed in Jiuquan, Jiayuguan, Zhangye, Wuwei and Tianshui. Judging from the literature and archaeological findings, the image of people’s head and snake’s body, sun and moon,roundness and square are the basic elements of Fuxi and Nuwa’s image. There are subtle differences between different regions. There are three types of Gansu Fuxi and Nuwa’s image, including opposing, mating and sitting. The belief of Fuxi and Nuwa’s images has a long history, from the Neolithic period to today, Fuxi and Nuwa has experienced three stages, separate, dual, three relatively distinct phases of development. Fuxi and Nuwa’s image originated northern region in the Neolithic and start in the pre-Qin Dynasty, who first appeared in a stable image of snake painting Han Dynasty tomb in the Central Plains region. In the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Wei Jin Hexi tomb found a lot of Fuxi and Nuwa’s images which reflect the real life and ideas in real life. Fuxi and Nvwa’s images in Gansu affected by the Central Plains in Han,Wei and Jin Dynasties influence, after the communication with the ethnic minorities,they have the distinct geographical and cultural characteristics. In Sui and Tang dynasties, Fuxi and Nuwa’s image spread to Xinjiang and Hexi Corridor. Fuxi and Nuwa faith continues to spread. In Song and Yuan dynasties, gradually, Fuxi and Nuwa’ s image began to disappear from tomb paintings. Because more and morepeople believe in Sanghuang, Fuxi and Nuwa’s images began to appear in the temple with complete human form. fixed in the ancestral temple. Tianshui preserved the large scale Fuxi temple, Nvwa temple. Sacrifice of Fuxi and Nvwa is the important activity to pray.Gansu has rich remains of Fuxi and Nvwa which has distinguished feature and sustained. It is the important region of spreading the belief of Fuxi and Nvwa. All of the remains stretch long and unbroken from the Chinese civilization; it is the important testimony and typical symbol of Chinese civilization ’ region and development.
