Under the condition of economic globalization and the information network, urban development depends greatly on the exchanging and sharing of material, information and energy among the cities and towns. The strength of spatial linkage has a direct impact on the competitiveness of the urban system, and can determine the prosperity and decline of the urban social economic development. Domestic and foreign scholars mainly focused on quantization of spatial interaction to reflect the strength of spatial linkage. Urban spatial interaction widely found in urban and regions, different kinds of urban constitute different types of urban system, there is also a difference about the way and strength of urban spatial interaction. Analysis of spatial interaction strength and evolution trend can provide important reference to urban and regional development planning, decision-making.The oasis city is a good regional combination of soil and water resources in arid areas, and also is the most concentrated distribution area of the human economic activities. The urban scale is relatively small which restricted by natural conditions, especially water restrictions. Strength of spatial interaction and characteristics of spatial-temporal variations are different from other types of urban system, because of the restriction of oasis distribution. As a typical representative of oasis urban system, the study of Hexi Corridor of the urban system spatial connection and space-time evolution, on the one hand, can clear urban development, areal variation and evolvement, on the other hand, is beneficial for the spatial structure optimization and the formulation of development strategies.Based on the data of the six time section, with the help of factor analysis, the improved gravity model, improved the potential model and spatial attracting scope of model, this paper discusses the space-time evolution characteristics of county urban space interaction in Hexi Corridor during 1990-2012. Results indicate that: ①The urban comprehensive strength of Hexi Corridor increased year by year, there are differences among the urban comprehensive strength size and amplification, and the distinct advantages is very outstanding in Jiayuguan. ②Strength of urban space interaction overall strengthening, spatial interaction strength mainly influenced by urban comprehensive strength, urban administrative position and geographic location. Jiayuguan and Suzhou area show the obvious effect of the same city and the strong integration trend. Jinchuan area and Liangzhou area affected by the spatial proximity effect is obvious. ③Urban potential distribution area is imbalance, characteristics of the spatial difference and space radiation is obvious, the same as evolvement. Potential value is large and growing rapidly, there is good ability of spatial agglomeration in Jiayuguan and Suzhou area. ④The direction of urban spatial attracting scope mainly affected by the centre and the spatial neighbor effect, different level urban spatial attracting scope change is different. Urban comprehensive strength, geographical location and administrative area are the main factors which influence urban spatial attracting scope.
