The Library of the North China Branch Royal Asiatic Society is one of the earliest British public library founded in Shanghai. It was founded at first just to collect information saved about the East for the foreign settlers. It used the catalog card first which is the example role in the modern library. At the same time, it is the cradle of the sinologist and the platform of Sinology. This article is based on "Journal of the North-China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society", collecting information about The Library of the North China Branch Royal Asiatic Society to demonstrate the function on Sinology. To achieve the council’s goal, the library tries its best to collect the information about China lead to converge the sinology book. Whether Henri Cordier as the representative of the first librarians or in Wylie, Alex, Esq., represented by the readers have engaged in the use of a rich collection of Chinese Studies, many of them well-known scholar. At the same time, the library will be responsible for the exchange of text documents and task documentation institutions around the world to promote the development of Chinese studies. It showed, the library of the North China Branch Royal Asiatic Society is the center of Chinese studies in that period, to promote the development of Chinese studies to make a positive contribution.
