Online game addiction can bring many negative effects to individuals and society, such as attack, social withdrawal, loneliness, depression, etc. Self-control was the core factor that influences game addicts’ behavior. It was helpful to make a research on the effect of self-control to addictive behaviors, which may not only provide insights into the causes of online game addiction, but also guide the addict to change their problem behaviors. This study was based on the Strength Model, aiming to examine the effect of self-control resources to the control of online game behavior. This study adopted the dual-task paradigm. The first task was for resource depletion, and the second task was to measure the effect caused by the depletion. Study1 included two parallel experiments with two different resource depletion tasks(the first task) and one game-DDT task(the second task). By measuring the performance of the second task, the aim of study1 was to explore the effect of resource depletion on the control of the game behavior. Study2 also included two parallel experiments with two different stroop tasks(the first task) and one problem-solving task(the second task). By measuring the performance of the second task, the aim of study2 was to explore the effect of game-related clues on the addict. This study was based on the self-control strength model to explore the effect of self-control resource to the game-related addictive behavior, and the specific depletion model caused by the game-related clues(the depletion effect of the clue). The main conclusions were as follows:(1) The game the self-control ability of the online gaming addict in the game-relevant DDT task was significantly lower than normal people, which inferred the lack of control of getting instant game award(study 1); The online game addict in the under the disturbance of game images(experiment 3, study 2) and game words(experiment 4, study 2) significantly had lower self-control ability to name color of the words than normal people, which was refer to the interference of game-related clues influenced the reaction time of the color naming.(2) "egret" thinking inhibition task(one of the self-control resource depletion tasks) could lead to lower decision-making control ability of game-DDT task(the experiment 1, study 1), “e” letter deletion task could also lead to lower decision-making control ability of game-DDT task(the experiment 2, study 1); The activation of game-related pictures(experiment 3, study 2) and game-related words(experiment 4, study 2) could consume the addict’s self-control resources, which affected the insist time in the subsequent problem solving task(self-control task). This study was to expand the knowledge about the relationship between self-control and the addict’s behavior, and to help the online game addict getting rid of Internet addiction and improving the performance of self-control.
