The research topic of this thesis lays on indie music, and it consists of several parts. Firstly, after thorough literature reviewing, I shape out the interview outline, and combine it with in-depth interview. The research purpose is to draw out the development history of indie music, to discuss its present market status and development potential, as well as the communication mode of indie music.The previous researches on indie music mostly focus on the analysis of its origin and audience, rather than the communication effects, not to mention the future development of indie music. On the basis of the existing literature, this thesis will focus on the communication of indie music, and try to present my own vision for the future development model of indie music.The research objects of this study are as following: TANG.TRIO Band, Caffeine Band, Diagon Alley Band, Hemiyouth Band, Dongye Song, the manager of YUYINTANG and Mao LiveHouse, five indie music audiences.Through communication with interviewers, the study made it clear about the meaning of indie music, the difference between indie music and mainstream music, the market status and prospects of indie music, the communication mode and communication effects of indie music.The study concluded that, although indie music presently faces a lot of challenges, however, there is always a solution. Pay to download, releasing compilation album and seeking business cooperation are all possible ways to fight a way out.
