Translation Report On Judgment About Business Contract

Judgment is a form of legal text. It is a kind of application-oriented non-literature language text. It features in strong normalization and solemnity. The translation of legal text is very strict in its selection of words and format. The translator cannot change the original form of the judgment; or express his or her emotion in the translation. The Skopos Theory has a great suitability towards the translation of application text. It explains translation from the angle of the target language readers to seek for a natural and fluent translation version.In this research, guided by the Skopos Theory, the author translates three pieces of civil judgment about disputes of business contract. Through the analysis of some specific translation cases, the author generalizes the translation strategies of this kind of legal document. Eccept for the professional knowledge and some common sense, the author get the conclusion of some translation strategies, such as literal translation and free translation; addition and omission and conversion of words with different properties.This project consists of five chapters. The first chapter describes the selected translation materials and introduces their content; also refers to the background and significance of this project. The second chapter describes the tasks, preparation work before translation, translation procedures and work after translation. The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of the words, sentences and style of the selected articles. The forth chapter makes analysis of the translation process and some translation cases of the civil judgment; and generalizes some translation strategies. The fifth chapter summarizes some findings and obtains from this project and the limitation of this project.
