This report, taking the English translation of Purchase Contract between China Railway Corporation and Henan Lanxin Technology Co.,Ltd.as an example, analyzes the text type, functions and language features of the business contract under the guidance of the skopos theory. Then it further discusses the major lexical and syntactic difficulties encountered in the translation process, and tries to explore the translation methods of the business contract based on the fidelity and coherence rule of the skopos theory so as to diversify the translation methods and provide some reference for other business contract translation.Based on the fidelity rule, this report proposes the methods of using equivalent terms and archaisms for translating the terminologies and archaic words of the contract.Based on the coherence rule, this report proposes to adopt formal modal verbs for the translation of auxiliaries, division and reconstruction for the long and complex sentences,word-related,phrase-related and sentence-pattern-related negation for the sentences with negative elements, and proper conditional introducer for the translation of conditional sentences. This report indicates that the translation methods of the business contract are determined by the translation skopos. The translation of the business contract aims at accurately and formally conveying the information of the source text, and making the target text coherent with the target readers' situation to ensure the same legal effect of the target text and the source text as well as present the standardization and preciseness of the business contract.
