With the continuous development of our economy,business exchanges between enterprises are becoming increasingly frequent.As a kind of binding document to regulate the commercial behaviors of both signing parties,the drafting and translating of business contract texts are more and more needed.The contract text belongs to the category of legal documents and has the general features of legal texts,namely,to express meanings in formal language and to describe responsibilities and obligations in a concise and comprehensive way without any ambiguity,so the translation work of contract texts has certain difficulty and poses challenges to translators,which leads to the uneven qualities of contract translation at present.This report takes the C-E translation of the legal contract text Roadside Assistance Service Cooperation Agreement as an example to explore feasible and useable methods and techniques.The source text is Roadside Assistance Service Cooperation Agreement,commissioned by AXA Travel Assistance(Beijing)Co.,Ltd.This cooperation agreement is a kind of contract texts in the genre of legal documents.With the assistance of Newmark's text type theory,this paper discusses the complementarity between semantic translation and communicative translation in legal document translation.Under the guidance of Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation theory,this paper proposes five practical translation methods and skills: literal translation,amplification,conversion,inversion and integration.
