In Chinese long-standing cultural tradition, as two art categories with strong lyricism, music and poetry are always related as blood and flesh and closely linked with each other. But there is lack of information in the eras of primitive, Xia and Shang Dynasties and the Book of Songs. The specific connection of music and poetry at that time is hardly to be researched in detail. Therefore, the relationship between music and poetry of Yue-fu in the Han Dynasty has become a particularly important juncture in the history of Chinese music and poetry, and it can also be seen as an early example of interaction and co-development of ancient music and poem. This article tries to combine musicology with literature closely, mainly studying the interpenetration and interaction between Yue-fu music and poetry of Han Dynasty as deeply as possible, expounds that Yue-fu of Han Dynasty was an early form of the interaction between music and poetry from various perspectives, and hopes to provide beneficial reference for inheriting and spreading the traditional culture. The article, apart from the introduction and conclusion, has five chapters: the activation of aesthetic fashion in Han Dynasty; immobilization in institution of Yue-fu of Han Dynasty; The interaction of themes of Yue-fu music and poems of Han Dynasty. The interaction of the artistic forms of Yue-fu poetry and music of Han Dynasty; The historical value of the interaction of Yue-fu poetry and music of Han Dynasty. The first chapter is aimed at illustrating that the Han Dynasty’s aesthetic fashion had a significant "change" : a main trend of treating commonness as elegance with the interpenetration and regarding commonness as elegance. This aesthetic fashion had a lever promotion influence on the interaction and development of Han Yue-fu music and poetry. The second chapter mainly expounds the institution’s braking effect on music and poetry from the perspective of the function of Yue-fu institution of Han Dynasty. In the Chinese history, Yue-fu of Han Dynasty was a famous institution which was in charge of the management of folk songs and poems, including collecting and arranging the poems and songs from people, as well as the creation by separated work of musicians and bards. Collecting poems and putting them into songs, composing poems to accompany songs, and selecting poems for the particular songs are not only powerful assurances of the mutual progress of Yue-fu songs and poems of Han Dynasty, but also effective incentives for them to advance. On such basis, chapter 3 and chapter 4 specifically expound the mutually infiltrated and interactive situation of the songs and the poems of Yue-fu of Han Dynasty in reference to two aspects: the theme and the artistic form. The following are all counted as the outcome of the interaction between music and poetry: the ceremonial music composed for aristocrats, songs of Qin by men of letter, folk music, exotic music and many other various musical genres. And the dramatization and musicalization of narrative poetry and the view of music which regards ’ sadness as beauty’’ in Han dynasty are corresponding and consistent with aesthetic tendency of Yue-fu folk songs of Han Dynasty in view of regarding ’ sadness as beauty’’ While the structure of music and chapters of poetry, the performance form of music and expression techniques of poetry, the pursuit of the form in poetry and style evolution of music permeates into each other and are formed by mutual promotion. This is the core problem in the project to be solved. Therefore, the expositions of these two aspects are treated as the key discussion parts of the thesis. The purpose of studying history is for the reality. Therefore, the fifth chapter based on the theoretical value and practical meaning of studying the subject. On one hand, this part narrates the inheritance and surpassingness for the Book of Songs and the influence on subsequent creation of poetry and music due to success in creation of Yue-fu of Han Dynasty. And on the other hand, this part emphasizes its multiple revelations for the contemporary relationship between poetry and music.
