| Youth problems have received sustained attention in our society. However, drug taking and drug trafficking among youth have grown faster in recent years, which significantly contributes to youth gang involvement and violence. A clear understanding of how to prevent gang emergence, disrupt existing gangs and divert youth from gangs will resolve drug problems among youth to a certain extent. The summary Youth Gang Programs and Strategies offers detailed information of different types of effective programs and tactics implemented in the Unite States, from which many lessons can be learnt.Base on the translation of the summary, the report firstly provides a general introduction of the social background, significance of the report and its organization. The second part analyzes the source text from its contents and language features. The third part analyzes the source text according to the theory of text typology. The major part case studies illustrates nine translation procedures with examples. The fifth part deals with the link between the skopos theory and those translation procedures. The final part concludes the four parts before as well as the limitations and expectations of the report. In accordance with Reiss’ s text typology, the summary belongs to “informative text†that requires complete representation in its translation. Meanwhile, the target text of the summary aims to clearly offer the information of youth gang programs in U.S. so that the translation should be coherent with the target language environment. Thus, in the light of Vermeer’s skopos theory, the translation should conform to intertextual coherence as well as intratextual coherence. In informative text translation, both of the two rules are equally important on the whole. |
