Frame semantics provides a new way to understand and describe the meaning of words and sentences. It gives a full explanation of meaning formation by taking many factors into consideration. Environmental slogans convey the environmental culture of a country and reflect a certain social problem or issue in the society, so the translation of them should be a process of reproduction and recreation. The present study is designed to analyze some strategies for translating Chinese environmental slogans based on frame semantics. This thesis includes six chapters. Chapter one provides some background, research methods and the whole organization of the study. Chapter two reviews some previous relevant studies. Chapter three introduces the theoretical framework of the study. Chapter four evaluates the feasibility of applying frame semantics into C-E translation of environmental slogans. Chapter five analyzes the available strategies for translating Chinese environmental slogans into English based on frame theory. Chapter six is the conclusion part, pointing out the innovation, implication and limitation of the present study, and giving some suggestion for further study in this field.
