Researchers in the field of interpreting have shifted their attention over the years of studies from a pure intra-discipline scenario to one interwoven with and aided by other fields of study, such as philosophy, social psychology, linguistics etc. This report is conducted to reveal the possible correlation between personality and interpreting performance by empirical study, questionnaire and interviews. The personality data is going to be collected through Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ) created by British psychologist Hans J.Eysenck. The questionnaire is administered to 30 students who have received systematic consecutive interpreting(CI) skills for a year and half in the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies(SITS)of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies(GDUFS) and have passed the CATTI Interpretation Level 2.According to Cai Xiaohong(2003), interpreting performance is assessed in three dimensions : basic informational points, information layer and information frame. The possible correlation between personality and interpreting performance is subject to the examination of SPSS 22.0. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was employed in this study. The limitations of this report is discussed in detail and the implications to either teaching or learning interpreting is given.
