A Study On The Explicitation/Implicitation Strategy In C-E Consecutive Interpreting From The Three Dimensions Of Eco-Translatology

Explicitation and implicitation strategies are common in interpreting.To put it simply,explicitation means making the implicit information in the SL explicit in the TL:while implicitation refers to the opposite.In the successful consecutive interpreting,the explicitation/implicitation strategy is necessary.Guided by the three dimensions of Eco-translatology,interpreters continue the process of adaptation and selection until the interpreting is finished.The explicitation/implicitation strategy,in essence,embodies the adaptive selection from the three dimensions.Therefore,the three dimensions as a whole can serve as the systematic guidance for the explicitation/implicitation strategy in C-E consecutive interpreting.From the perspective of the three dimensions,the case study analyzes the manifestations of the explicitation/implicitation strategy and then explores the driving force behind the adoption of the strategies.Combining the theoretical guidance with analysis of the language material of the 2019 Chinese Premier's press conference interpreting,the study comes to several findings:explicitation/implicitation strategy embodies the adaptive selection from the three dimensions;the explicitation strategy involves more than one dimension of the three but is finally led to the communicative dimension;explicitation and implicitation strategies often coexist;besides,the implicitation strategy is adopted mainly to promote communication.Conclusively,communicative efficiency is the major driving force behind the explicitation/implicitation strategy in C-E consecutive interpreting.This also contributes to C-E interpreting learning and field interpreting.
