Image Narrative Research Of News Pictorial In Late Qing Dynasty

The issuance of Dianshizhai symbolizes the appeared of our news pictorial. Then it developed to climax in Late Qing. According to statistics, there are a total of 70 kinds of lithography pictorial appearing in Late Qing. From September 1898 to December 1911, the number is fifty. This paper mainly chose three news pictorial to research. They are China pictorial,Shen Bao pictorial, Pictorial news.Different structures of picture show different modes of narrate. There are two kinds of images in the news pictorial of Late Qing. One is single image, the other is the series. There are three methods can we use to narrate the single image. The first one is to select the most important part to narrate. The second one is to combine the different parts together.The last one is to use the words to explain the images. And there are also three methods we can use to narrate the series images. One is to combine the pictures in line. The other is put the different pictures together. Last one is let the pictures of same theme together.The picture in news pictorial can not narrate clearly by them. So in order to explain the news clearly, we must need the help of words. There are two kinds of words in news pictorial. One is the title; the other is the words in the picture. And the different kinds of words play different functions.Compared with the narrative of newspaper, the style of pictorial is idiographic.For example, the pictorial often choose interesting news to narrate. And it seems like a micro-fiction. Sometimes the pictorial maybe describes the news with the way of comic. The result is that it looks like a caricature. The narrative of advertisements is also different of the narrative of newspaper. In the news pictorial, advertisements often be put in context so that it can attract the readers effectively.
