With the rapid development of digital information technology and complexity science, the architectural creation shows the trend of diversified development, while the innovation in the form of narrative comes into being. As an outstanding representative of narrative, film affects the expression of architectural space in its motion; temporal variability and public nature, and opens up a broad prospect for space design. The paper takes the suspense as a breakthrough point, and tries to seek new inspiration for space design from film suspense mechanism. After film suspense narrative analysis, the paper sums up three kinds of cinematic suspense mechanism: plot structure is interlocking; feelings correspond to environment and time arrangement is flexible and complex. Based on these three types of suspense mechanism, the paper discusses the similar performances of space suspense in the plot structure, emotional logic and time-control in the study of analogy with cinematic suspense combined with a large number of cases. After that, it comes to a conclusion: space design can generate plot sequence; rich emotional experience and control time through the film suspense mechanism, so that to establish a direct contact with the film. Based on the connection, the narrative space is divided into three stages of "start"; "climax" and "end". With the influence of cinematic suspense mechanism, a series of specific design methods are extracted, expecting to have a positive impact on the practice of narrative space design. As an exploration of space design method, the paper inspireds the space designers’ creation; enriches the ideas of space design and expands the connotation and denotation of space narrative.
