In the filed of translation studies, translators and scholars tend to use the achievements of other disciplines for reference. To be more specific, they examine the translation studies in an interdisciplinary perspective. After going through the linguistic turn and the cultural turn successively, the translation studies is undergoing another turn the ecological turn. In 2001, Professor Hu Gengshen first put forward the notion of eco-translatology, broadening the vision of interdisciplinary studies on translation. With "an approach to translation as adaptation and selection" as the fundamental theory, eco-transaltology has now become an interdisciplinary research, studying translation from the perspective of ecology.Eco-translatology provides a brand new angle for translation studies. Based on this approach, this thesis sets out to analyze Three Kingdoms by Moss Roberts in an ecological perspective, to verify eco-translatology’s interpretation power of the translating process, to present its limitations and to improve researches on Three Kingdoms. This thesis chose Three Kingdoms as a case study. The source text is a collection of essays written by Luo Guanzhong (1330-1400) and the English version was translated by the American Sinologist, Moss Roberts. Through categorizations and analyses of terms such as "eco-translatology", "translational eco-environment", "selective adaptation" and "adaptive selection", this thesis proved the applicability of eco-translatology to the analysis of the English version Three Kingdoms. Then the thesis analyzed the translated version from the aspects of linguistic and non-linguistic adaptation and selection of translation methods and style, so as to provide a brand new angle to understand Three Kingdoms. It was found that the English version Three Kingdoms was the production of Moss Roberts’s active adaptation to his "translational eco-environment". The translator made selective adaptation from linguistic and non-linguistic aspects and adaptive selection from the perspectives of translation methods and style, thus producing a version acceptable by readers of the target language. This shows that eco-translatology is very powerful in translation studies. Of course, eco-translatology has its own limitations. For instance, in the actual translating process, it is impossible to analyze "adaptation" and "selection" separately because these two parts have many overlaps. Therefore, further study on eco-tranlsatology is in dire need.
