The Study Of The Dianshizhai Pictorial Images’ Generation And Narrativity Paradigm

This paper looks at Dianshizhai Pictorial, which existed for about 10 years in the late Qing Dynasty, with an aim to analyze, or study its unique image structure as dynamic and developing objects within the framework of video structure and narrative theory.First, with an origination-maturity-declination biological model, this paper analyzes the images in Dianshizhai Pictorial. In fact, in the primary observation and analysis of the images in Dianshizhai pictorial and the related literature review, the author noticed this model. Therefore, based on this phenomenon, this paper explores, analyzes and discusses Dianshizhai pictorial images’ generation, evolution, result and the significance. Secondly, this paper analyzes and discusses the narrative of the images, the main property of the Dianshizhai pictorial images, such as the structure, elements and narrative point of view. This paper takes Dianshizhai pictorial as a kind of meta narrative. Finally, the author will give a conclusion by combining the above two parts and analyzing the relationship between the image evolution and image narrative in order to explore the significance of Dianshizhai Pictorial.The main points of the paper are 1. Dianshizhai Pictorial developed dynamically, with different image styles at its different development stages; 2. Dianshizhai Pictorial adopted and improved such traditional Chinese narrative pictures as morality, literariness, and customs; 3. The narrative pictures presented in Dianshizhai Picturial concerns real things in the world.The conclusion of this thesis is: 1. Dianshizhai Pictorial evolves and forms a more simple and neat painting styles by taking in and revising the western painting styles and visual concept; 2. With a distinctive Picture-and-text-integration model, Dianshizhai Pictorial contains a feature of meta narration; 3. There is a fusion of the self and the western culture and its modernity in the narration of Dianshizhai Pictorial, and a publicity of the new painting styles and knowledge by way of story narration.
