There are some problems in the current situation of English teaching in vocational schools, such as students are not very interested in learning, and their attitude towards the teaching effects is not optimistic. The author makes an analysis on the possible reasons, including the old way of teaching, the resource of students and the quality of teachers, etc. Activity instruction approach advocates using different forms of activities to teach on the basis of teaching materials and teaching aims.The paper is a case study on Inner Mongolia National Preschool Educators College, which is a school aims to prepare would-be preschool teachers for society. There are Mongolian students and Han students in the college. There is a questionnaire distributed before the adopting of activity teaching approach, aiming to find out the relationship between the teaching activities and students’ interests. During the teaching, the author tried to use different kinds of activities to solve the problem that the students are not so interested in the classes. The activities includes using English songs, games,tong-twisters, drawings, role-plays and brainstorms.After adopting activity approach for two terms, the author made a questionnaire to check the students’ interests on English teaching. Based on the analysis on the result of the questionnaire, the author made a conclusion that the students are more interested in English classes after using activity instruction approach. At the end of the term, the author compared the scores of students who have adopted activity instruction approach with the scores of the students that had traditional teaching method. The author has found out the scores of experimental class have got significant enhancement. Finally,however, the author has applied activity teaching approach for only one year,the author will put more effort to find more activities that are suitable for students in English classes.There are overall seven parts in the thesis. The first part is anintroduction, including an overview of the vocational English teaching and the advantage of using activity instruction approach. In the second part, a literature view has been made, which includes the current status of the researches on activity instruction approach and vocational English teaching.In the third part, the author made a survey on the problems existed in vocational English teaching and the possible reasons. In the fourth part, the author made a detailed explanation on the using of activity instruction approach and made a list of some practical usage of teaching activities. The fifth part is an analysis on the questionnaire on students’ feedback on the using of activity instruction approach and a comparison between the students’ scores of experimental and normal class. In the sixth part, some pedagogical suggestions are given. The last part is a conclusion.
