Study On “Degree Adverb+shi”in Contemporary Chinese Language

This article is a comprehensive study on the structure of “degree adverb + Shi”. Through analysing diachronic condition with synchronic course of the typical structure of “degree adverb +Shi”(including “Zui+Shi”,“Shen+Shi”,“Geng+Shi” and “Hen+Shi”),we try to explain the nature of this structure, especially for its grammaticaliation course, grammaticaliation mechanism and pragmatic effects. This thesis comprises six chapters:Chapter I(Introduction)We retrospect the related research papers about “Shi” and “adverb/conjunction +Shi”, summarizing and evaluating the gains and losses. State the research object, method and the data source.Chapter II(Component Analysis and Properties Judging of “Degree adverb +Shi”)We briefly introduce the grammaticaliation of “Shi” and the type of degree adverb.We deem that the diachronic of this structure is with the same form but different structures.Chapter III(Investigation the Lexicalization and Grammaticaliation of “Degree adverb +Shi”) We use the research method of synchronic to analysis the interior of the structure and divide the grammaticaliation course into two stages: the linear collocation stage and the compound word stage, mainly expounding the four words.Chapter IV(The Motivation and Mechanism of “Degree adverb +Shi” in Grammaticaliation Course)We explore and summarize the motivation and mechanism of this structure as three principal factors which are dual priming mechanism of syntactic and semantic; impetus of pragmatic; priming mechanism of rhythm.Chapter V(Analysis the Pragmatic Effects of “Degree adverb +Shi”) According to the grammaticaliation course of this structure, we conclude the pragmatic functions to this: meta-pragmatic usage; judge- limited function to double strengthen function.Chapter VI(Conclusion) Finally, we summarize the value and defects of this article.
