With the continuous development of China’s economy, the significant increase in the overall national strength, the more and more people learning Chinese. Language is the carrier of culture, which bears the living habits and cultural traditions of a nation. Our language changes with the changes of society. Politeness are the indispensable part of our language.Through observation, I found that, in our daily communication language, the ways of greeting, compliment and the respond to praise have undergone significant changes. Therefore, based on the politeness as a starting point, the paper selects the representative greetings and compliments as research object, through a questionnaire survey and interviews to understand the change of the language itself. On the basis of this, the author investigated the situation of the students in the intermediate Chinese level, and put forward some suggestions for the teaching.The main body of this paper is divided into the following five parts: First of all, the introduction part, mainly introduces the origin of the topic, the significance and value of research, research ideas and methods, innovation points and related research review, etc.Chapter one, the Chinese greetings and compliments are defined and classified.Chapter two, the paper takes the university students as the representative of the native speakers to conduct a questionnaire survey and interviews about their using of greetings and compliments. It draws the following conclusion: Greetings has gradually become the mainstream, foreign greetings was used in high frequency; "appellation" greeting changes; rich Chinese greeting terms, significantly affected by the context; attitudes towards compliment has changed.Chapter three, the Chinese greetings and compliments for intermediate students were investigated. Comparing it with the native speakers using these words to draw the following conclusion: the overseas students use "Ni hao", Chinese students use "Hello / Hi"; overseas students of Chinese appellation master is not in place; overseas students "glimpses" greeting language problems; overseas students said a written expression of compliments; overseas students praised the content emphasis is different; students compliment response is not freely.Chapter four, from the angel of cultural differences language change in society and teaching materials to analyze why there is a gap in Chinese greetings and compliments using between the intermediate students and the native speakers, and according to the actual situation, from the three aspects of teachers, teaching materials and students put forward teaching suggestions.The last part is the conclusion, which summarizes the previous research and the deficiencies of this article.
