Language is an indispensable tool for human communication. It goes withoutsaying that English, with its special particularity, becomes the most important worldlanguage. With English entering various countries in the world and being used bypeople in different fields including economy, policy, and culture, etc., varieties ofEnglish have come into being. In the process of cultural collision between nativeEnglish and Chinese culture, China English has become one of the importantmembers of the family of English varieties.Since the term “China English” was first put forward, debates on it have neverstopped in the academic world concerned. Nevertheless, numerous researches by theformer scholars have proved that China English has become an objective existence.China English is a valuable complement for English and an available tool for the restof the world to know better about China. The increasing national power of China andthe lasting deepening linking with the rest of the world are providing never-endingmotivation for the development of China English. How to make English be moreeffective in the communication between China and the rest of the world and how totrain more and better qualified English learners with more practical knowledge andskills is a big task for English teaching in China. Under this circumstance, the studyon China English has great theoretical and pragmatic significance for Englishteaching in China.There are altogether five chapters in this thesis. Chapter one is the briefintroduction of this research from such aspects as the background, purpose,significance, and the outline of this thesis. Chapter two is the literature review. Formerstudies on World Englishes are presented first, followed by the introduction of thestudies on China English in a diachronic way. Chapter three is the comparativeanalysis of China English and Native English from different language perspectives,aiming at having a comparatively comprehensive analysis of China English. In chapter four the author gives several suggestions on English teaching in China basedon the present situation of English teaching in China. Chapter Five is a summary ofthe findings of this thesis and points out the openness and limitations of this study.This paper makes comparative analysis of China English and native English atvarious language levels and provides the reasons behind these differences, which aimat helping English learners in China have proper understanding of and hold correctattitude to China English. Besides, suggestions based on the analysis of China Englishare hopefully to make some contribution to English teaching in China.
