The 32 pieces of sonata produced by Beethoven have unique artistic features in the development history of piano, which has reached an unparalleled height in classical sonata performance. Each of his sonata works features very high research value and artistic characteristic value, as he integrated his own difficult life experiences into the artistic creation, sometimes we could hear bright and beautiful melody, but sometimes we would hear angry and sad melody. This piece of sonata is an representative of his medium-term masterpiece, which is characterized by beautiful and bright melody. Each of his 32 works has its own advantages, and such strong music charm as well as comparative styles have shown his relatively high creative techniques. This paper aims at researching one of Beethoven’s 32 works, “Beethoven:Piano Sonata No.18 In E Flat Major Op.31 No.3”, a relatively mature sonata in Beethoven’s medium-term works. This piece of sonata shows free phrase as well as lively and generous teen spirit melody, the sweet and gorgeous phrase has formed a strong contrast with his earlier and later-term works. I am very familiar with this sonata and regard it as an important sonata performance in solo concert, so I decide to select it as the research project of this paper to elaborate on its creative techniques and performance features as much as possible. This paper is made up of four chapters, the first chapter describes the creative fields of Beethoven’s sonata, the second chapter shows the melody structure and creative techniques of “Beethoven: Piano Sonata No.18 In E Flat Major Op.31 No.3”, the third chapter analyzes the melody arrangement, tone transformation and phrase intensity level change based on the comparison with the whole sonata and the last chapter conducts a deeper research on the 4 musical movements’ performance techniques and emotional expression, mainly from the perspective of technique application.
