Animated narrative space is the place or space which carries the development of things or the main movement in animation. Without the existence of narrative space, the whole narrative activities will cease to exist.Animated narrative space is composed of one or more of story narrative space, which is made of scene space. Scene space is made of lens space assembling, whose substance is lens assembling. Therefore, the lens assembling plays a key role in the presentation of narrative space. Split-screen animated short film is a special form of animation, cutting a screen into multiple painting grid and realizing narrative by showing the image of different painting grids simultaneously. Therefore, for the narrative space presentation of split-screen animated short film, the creator need assemble the lens not only inside single painting grid but also between different painting grids. The lens assembling is not arbitrary and must confirm with certain laws, otherwise, the short film can’t present a reasonable, uniform and relevant space and convey a clear space relationship for audience. Lens assembling of painting grid is consistent with that of single screen animation in the split screen animated short film, so this paper focuses on the laws of lens assembling between different painting grids.By researching typical split-screen animated short film and personal creation, the laws of lens assembling between different painting grids in the split screen animated short film are summed up.The results show that the split-screen animation short film has the advantages of intuition, diversity visualizations and showing effectiveness of time when it is used to present narrative space of short film.
