This is a report on the translation of Chapters 1-2 in the American modern love novel The Honeymoon Prize. The original text was the third part from the Honeymoon Series written by Melissa McClone, a graduate of mechanical engineering from Stanford University. It tells a story of two old friends Nick Calhoun, the hero as a bodyguard who needs get married and Adalaide Sinclair, the heroine who is homeless when her grandmother died. When Nick proposes a no-sex marriage, Addie, his childhood playmate, has to agree. They win a ten-day honeymoon vacation, in which they find they fall in love with each other and eventually become a true couple. The language of the novel is unique and the translator chooses the first and second chapters as the basis of the report. In the novel, different characters use different styles of language, for example, passionate lovers’ chats, bad lies and humorous jokes, and so on. In addition to the expression of language, literary translation is another important concern of the report, such as translation of the title in literary works, the difference between free translation and domestication, etc.The report is composed of four parts. The first part includes the significance of the translation task, introduction of the author and the book. The second part includes the process of translation. The third part is case analysis that is the key point of this report. The author uses two important methods---free translation and domestication---to translate the difficult sentences. In this part, the author makes a detailed analysis of some typical cases. The translation experience has taught the author much about literary translation. The translators should draw lessons and gather experiences to continuously enhance the ability of English translation. The report will also offer some reference for the translation of novels.
