Known as "local language", dialect is a local branch of the national language. Dialect is a kind of language used in a particular speech community in a specific region. As the sub-dialect of the Northern dialect, the Northeastern Dialect, as its name suggests, refers to the widely used language in the daily life of the Northeastern people. It mainly distributes in Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces, among of which Jilin and Heilongjiang province take a large proportion, while Liaoning province takes a relatively small proportion. As a conspicuous feature of the Northeastern Dialect, "degree adverb" has drawn a wide attraction in the academic circle. In the Northeastern Dialect, the degree adverbs enjoy a unique syntactic structure and pragmatic effect, which to some extent riches the Mandarin. The study focus of this thesis is the degree adverbs in the Northeastern Dialect. Through the analysis and conclusion of the previous study about the degree adverbs in Dongbiehua, I conclude the characteristics of the Northeastern Dialect. Moreover, in terms of the syntax in linguistics, I made a comprehensive and synchronic study of the degree adverbs in lexical collocation, syntactic function, syntactic structure and pragmatic effect on both lexical and the sentence level. Through the overall study of the corpus extracted from TV series, Newspaper, books and papers, as well as the field research by myself, I concluded some frequently used degree adverbs inthe Northeastern Dialect, such as "lao", "bu za", "wan", "si", "cheng", "zei", "tei", "e", "xie", "jing", "que", "liu", "hou", "xi", and some onomatopoeia like "gang gang". By means of instances cited and the comparison with Mandarin, a systematic summary of these degree adverbs in the Northeastern Dialect has been made to uncover the using feature and rules of these degree adverbs, namely their combination capability. The study on Dongbeihua is conductive to the study of Language and Culture, as well as of the Intercultural Communication. This thesis is constituted by introduction, the main body and a conclusion. Its main contents are as following:The first part is introduction which gives a description of the distribution of the Northeastern Dialect, as well as the study achievements on the Northeastern Dialect in recent years. Besides, the introduction of the definition and current research status are also included in this part. Lastly, the introduction includes the research significance, methods and the Corpus sources. The second part is the main body of this thesis, and is constituted by three chapters.Chapter I deals with the literature review which did an overall introduction in Speech Community, Dialect and Syntactic Category. First of all, the definition of speech community was mentioned, and then all the Northeast China was considered as a specific speech community. This chapter also involves the inner-relationship between speech and dialect. In the end, the theoretical basis of this thesis--the syntactic category was interpreted. In chapter II, the study focus is the collocation of the degree adverbs in the Northeastern Dialect on lexical level, namely the concrete use of degree adverbs as the modifier of AP, VP and NP. This chapter mainly studies three kinds of degree adverbs: the common degree adverbs like "lao", "tei", "bu za", "si", etc. This group enjoys the most common use in Dongbeihua and has little demand on the head it collocates, which can be both adjectives and verbs, and "lao" even can be the modifier of nouns; the second group is the grammaticalized degree adverbs like "jing", "xi", "hou(r)", etc. This group of degree adverb has strict scope restriction to the head followed which is, in most cases, adjective; the third kind is the onomatopoeia like "guang guang" and "ao ao".In chapter III, most paragraphs were distributed to the description of the syntactic function, syntactic structure and the characteristics of these degree adverbs. Before the systematic description, the syntactic function was introduced, namely the concrete use of the degree adverbs as predicate, object, attribute, adverbial and complement in a sentence. During the study, a phenomenon has been found out that only "wan" and "si" are able to function as complement in a sentence, while other degree adverbs are only adverbial elements. However, when combined with their modified elements, these degree adverbs can serve as predicate, object, attribute, adverbial and complement in a sentence. Then the study focuses on the syntactic structure of these degree adverbs and falls into three parts:the repetition, negation rule, and omission. Research conclusion has been drawn that most degree adverbs can appear in repetition and negation form, such as "lao", "jing", "que", "xi", "hou" and some onomatopoeia, while the degree adverb "zei" and "e" have only the repetition forms, degree adverbs "cheng", "tei", "liu", and "jiao" only have the negation forms. Moreover, omission is only exclusive to some onomatopoeia. The last part is conclusion which summarizes all analysis of this thesis and concludes the features of all the degree adverbs listed in above chapters. This chapter focuses on the protection of the Northeastern Dialect and its application in Intercultural Communication, including the protection principles and protection methods of dialect points. Moreover, the application of the Northeastern Dialect is interpreted respectively from phonetic, morphological and syntactic point of view. This study is designed supposedly to be conductive to the Intercultural Communication. Last the conclusion has been drawn that in the Northeast China, the study of dialect should take account for the the dialect context and the dialect awareness of the learners should be enhanced. Efforts also need to be made to stimulate the learner’s motivation by means of the involvement of specific cultural characteristics of the Northeastern Dialect. Besides, dialect-related courses are ought to be provided by school on the request of students and interesting textbook should be compiled. The film and television programs are to be employed efficiently to carry out regular cultural activities with Northeastern characteristics. The research in this thesis is supposed to be conductive to the study of the Northeastern Dialect and the Inter-cultural communication.
